Hi! I'm Abby!
We’re going to take a word work journey back in time. Back to first grade. Which, for me, was circa 1989. Do you remember your word work instruction from back then?
I remember being in a bird-themed reading group and a really thick phonics workbook.
That’s it. That’s all I remember. Nothing about it was memorable or exciting, that’s for sure.
Fast-forward to my undergrad work as a pre-service teacher. Phonics instruction wasn’t mandatory, but I did pick up a course in the event I got a job in a neighboring state where it was required. (Pats self on back.) It wasn’t until I had my own classroom - and children of my own - that I realized just how important word work is.
Today, however, I LOVE all things words. I see all the PH words as foundational to core reading instruction - phonological awareness, phonemic awareness, and phonics.
I want to share that love with YOU. I’m here to be your Word Work Hype Girl - here to provide you with resources and engaging activities to make you the BEST word worker around. Let’s do it!
